Huskies Drop Friday Night Clash Against Cougars

Maria Kanatas

The Mount Royal University Cougars shut out the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 1-0 in a fast-paced matchup Friday night at Calgary Flames Community Arena. The Cougars scored the game's only goal on a powerplay opportunity 11 minutes into the first period. Emma Bergesen sent a cross-ice pass along the blue line to Tatum Amy, who unleashed a wrister that found its way into the top left corner of the net. The Huskies goalie, Camryn Drever, could not track the puck as she was screened. Both teams had multiple opportunities in the second and third period but could not capitalize on their chances, resulting in a scoreless 40 minutes. MRU and U of S had their fair share of power plays resulting in prolonged periods in the offensive zone and multiple scrambles in front of the net. Both goalies had an outstanding performance tonight, keeping it a close game from the very beginning. Zoe De Beauville was a brick wall tonight for MRU, stopping all 28 shots and getting her third shutout of the season. Drever saved 24 of 25 shots keeping her team in the game. The Cougars look to take this momentum into tomorrow night's rematch against the Huskies at 6:00pm at Calgary Flames Community Arena. Be sure to catch the game on Canada West TV presented by Coop.
