SASKATOON – The University of Alberta Golden Bears led wire-to-wire Saturday night, rolling to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) victory inside the PAC.
The Golden Bears racked up 32 kills in the match and hit eight aces from the service line.
The result was a big one for both teams. Alberta, who has now won 10 games in a row, clinched second place in with the victory. They now know that they will host the seventh place team in conference quarter-final action.
With the loss Saskatchewan falls to 9-11. Currently seventh in the conference, the Huskies will have to wait until the final weekend of the season to determine their playoff fate. The Huskies will take on Manitoba Bisons, who are currently 7-12 on the year.
It was a balanced attack from the Golden Bears that led them to victory.
Braedon Friesen racked up nine kills and also passed well, ending the night with 10 digs. Jackson Kennedy and Carter McIntyre each added six assists while George Hobern recorded six blocks.
Cole Burkart had seven kills,
Connor Murray six and
CJ Gavlas finished with 22 assists.
Playing in the final home game of their Huskie careers, Burkart,
Daven Pascal and
Daulton Sinoski were honoured post-game.
The Huskies will hit the road to wrap up their regular season next weekend against the Bisons in Winnipeg. Alberta meanwhile will have a bye for their final weekend and will now have a week off to prepare for the post-season.
