SASKATOON – The No. 6 ranked University of Alberta Pandas showed why they are one of the top teams in the nation Friday night, as they stormed into Saskatoon and came away with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies inside the PAC.
 
Alberta's offence was the story of the game. They finished the night hitting at a ridiculous .444 per cent clip as a team with three players hitting over .500 in the game.
 
The result was an important one in the Canada West standings. Alberta was able to widen the gap between them and the Huskies, moving to 15-6 with Saskatchewan dropping to 12-9.
 
Canada West kills leader Kory White led the way for the Pandas, finishing the night with 16 kills. Julia Zonneveld added a further 15 while Vanessa Jarman finished on 10 of the 14 swings she took in the game.
 
Emily Koshinsky was a bright spot for Saskatchewan, recording 12 kills and a pair of service aces. Those aces allowed the outside hitter from Jansen, Sask. to set some Huskie history as she moves into a tie for the program record in aces alongside Jina Barker with 122.
 
The first set was by far the tightest of the match. Koshinsky had 10 kills in and Averie Allard had 15 assists before the Pandas turned the tide. After trailing for much of the first set Alberta came to life late. Five-straight points brought them from a one-point deficit to a 24-20 lead. Mandi Fraser was able to respond with an ace but White put the set to bed with a kill.
 
Alberta was dominant in the second set, hitting .528 as a team en route to the ten point victory that Jarman capped off with a solo block.
 
The Huskies showed some life in the third but weren't able to claw their way back into the game. After the Saskatchewan led 8-7, Alberta went on a 15-6 run before grabbing the set 25-18.
 
These teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon inside the PAC. Starting at 3 p.m., the game tomorrow will serve as the final home game in the Huskies' careers of Taylor Annala and Brooke Listwin. The team will also honour both the 1979-81 Huskiettes and head coach Mark Tennant who were recently inducted to the Canada West Hall of Fame.
