SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's volleyball team will wrap up their regular-season slate of home games this weekend at the PAC, as they get set to welcome the visiting Alberta Pandas to the Bridge City.

Not often can a team be on the wrong end of a weekend sweep and still come out with a positive result, but that was exactly the case last weekend for the Huskies.

Thanks to the out-of-town scoreboard, Saskatchewan was able to clinch its first conference playoff appearance in 18 years.

It's been a tremendous turnaround season for the Huskies program, who will look to improve on their 12-8 record this weekend against a fellow playoff-bound squad.

The Huskies, who have split their last three weekend series at the PAC, will be looking to reel off a pair of victories against the Pandas as they chase after a potential home playoff game.

If Saskatchewan is able to finish the regular season in the top-four of the conference, they would receive the honour of playing host to a Canada West quarter-final series in Saskatoon.

Entering the weekend, the Huskies are chasing the Pandas, along with the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack in the standings. The WolfPack will close the season off with a pair of tough series against the MacEwan Griffins and Trinity Western Spartans.

However, a pair of wins won't come easy this weekend for Saskatchewan, with Alberta entering town as winners of five consecutive matches. The Pandas have won nine of their last ten contests, with only one loss since Nov. 29.

Following a pair of back-to-back three-set victories over their provincial rival Calgary Dinos, the Pandas enter the weekend riding a winning wave. Alberta, who has only dropped one set in their previous five outings, will look to climb in the conference standings this weekend.

The Huskies and Pandas split their weekend series last season in Edmonton, with each team recording a 3-1 victory during the slate of contests at the Saville Sports Centre.

5 Things

1: With this weekend serving as the Huskies final weekend at the PAC of the regular season, Taylor Annala and Brooke Listwin will be recognized for their contributions to the program following Saturday night's contest, as the pair of Huskies who spent all five years of eligibility get set to wrap up their U SPORTS careers.

2: Following the second set of Saturday night's contest, the Huskies will take a moment to pay tribute to long-time program head coach Mark Tennant, as well as the 1978-81 Huskiette volleyball teams, who won three consecutive conference and national titles, and were each recently inducted into the Canada West Hall of Fame.

3: Friday night will be Spike Out Bullying night inside the PAC. The Huskies will wear pink warmups in collaboration with SaskTel's Be Kind Online campaign.

4: Fourth-year Huskies outside hitter Emily Koshinsky enters the weekend just two service aces away from tying Jina Barker's program record of 122. Koshinsky, who sits 17th in conference history, is fourth among active players in the respective category.

5: Meanwhile, in her final pair of regular season games on her home floor, Taylor Annala is three service aces away from tying current Huskies assistant coach Emily Humbert's career mark of 116 aces, which would put her inside the top-20 of the all-time conference record books.
