SASKATOON – The final weekend of the regular season is here for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's hockey team and a pair of provincial rivalry games is just one of the many storylines at play.
Â
Not only will the Huskies do battle with the Regina Cougars, but the games will be of immense importance in the Canada West standings.
Â
The Huskies are currently second in the conference, just one point back of the Calgary Dinos in a battle for a quarter-final bye and the right to host a conference semifinal.
Â
Regina meanwhile, is in a three-way battle for fourth place. The Cougars are on 35 points, just one ahead of both the Mount Royal Cougars and UBC Thunderbirds.
Â
Saskatchewan split with the Manitoba Bisons at home last weekend, recording a convincing 3-0 win on Friday before surrendering four unanswered goals in a 4-3 loss on Saturday.
Â
A pair of wins this weekend could go a long way for the confidence of a Regina squad that is currently on a three-game losing skid with playoffs right around the corner. The Cougars were swept by Alberta last weekend, falling by scores of 3-1 and 2-0.
Â
These two teams met already this season, in a home-and-home set played at the end of November. The Cougars took down the Huskies 3-2 in Saskatoon before Saskatchewan repaid the favour in Regina, dumping the Cougars 4-3.
Â
5 Things
Â
1: On Saturday the Huskies will honour the leader in program history in both goals (86) and points (149) after Breanne George was inducted in the Canada West Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Â
2:
Leah Bohlken,
Courtney Cormack,
Shyan Elias,
Brooklyn Haubrich,
Rachel Lundberg,
Emma Nutter,

Â
3: The provincial rivalry has been incredibly tight as of late. Both teams have won five games in their past 10 meetings, with the Huskies holding a 20-19 advantage in goals scored over those 10 games.
Â
4: 5th-year forward Jaycee Magwood leads the Cougars with 20 points this season, the sixth-most in the conference.
Â
5: A pair of Huskies scored their first career U SPORTS goals last weekend. Both
