SASKATOON, Sask. — Despite being eliminated from playoff contention the night before and trailing for much of the game, the Huskies delivered a gritty effort in their final outing of 2025-26.
In their season finale, the Saskatchewan Huskies completed a resilient comeback on Senior Night at Merlis Belsher Place (Feb. 14), scoring three unanswered third-period goals to earn a 3-2 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars.
Trailing 2-0 with less than eight minutes remaining, the Huskies erupted for three goals in a span of four minutes and 30 seconds. Fifth-year forward
Sara Kendall ignited the rally, fellow senior
Jayde Cadieux followed three minutes later, and
Kahlen Wisener sealed it with the eventual game-winner.
Huskies goaltender and graduating senior
Colby Wilson also played a pivotal role in the victory. The fifth-year Arts & Science student was perfect in the final frame, turning aside all nine Cougars shots in the third to keep her team within striking distance. The win marked Wilson's 26th and final victory as a Huskie, as she finishes her career with a 26-25 record — ranking fifth all-time among Saskatchewan women's goaltenders.
Saskatchewan closes the season at 12-10-6, marking the second consecutive year the Huskies have missed the Canada West playoffs. Prior to 2024-25, the program had qualified for 16 straight post-seasons dating back to 2007-08.
Mount Royal, meanwhile, wraps up its regular season at 19-7-2, securing top spot in the East Division and a first-round bye into the Canada West semifinal.
Similar to the previous night's matchup, MRU came out strong and struck first in the opening period. During a scramble in front of the Huskies net, Cougars leading scorer Allee Gerard corralled the puck and fired her 11th of the season past Wilson for the early lead. Saskatchewan was unable to respond and trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.
In the second, both teams exchanged power-play opportunities as the Huskies elevated their offensive pressure. Saskatchewan outshot Mount Royal 11-4 in the period and had two chances with the man advantage but could not solve Cougars goaltender Katherine Holan. With 1:22 remaining in the frame and on their second power play, Kiana McNinch capitalized to extend MRU's lead to 2-0 heading into the third.
As time ticked down on their season and tensions rose, Huskies defenceman
Julianna Herman was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing, with Cougars blueliner Jordynne Hojnocki receiving a coincidental penalty. The sequence appeared to spark Saskatchewan as just 12 seconds after the penalties were issued, Kendall sniped the Huskies' first goal past Holan. Moments later, Cadieux tied the game on the power play, banking the puck in off Holan from behind the goal line.
Wisener then scored her team-leading 10th of the season at the 2:46 mark, deflecting a pass from Kendra Zuchotski for the eventual game-winner and completing the 3-2 comeback.
Prior to puck drop, the Huskies honoured their graduating class —
Jayde Cadieux,
Bronwyn Boucher,
Paris Oleksyn, Mckenna Bolger,
Colby Wilson, Kendra Zuchotski and
Sara Kendall — in a pre-game ceremony, celebrating their dedication and lasting impact on the program both on and off the ice.
