SASKATOON – Hot off a season that saw him set multiple program records en route to being named the U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year, Nelson Lokombo has done more than enough to catch the eye of professional scouts.
 
This was proven on Wednesday when the fourth-year defensive back was named to the 14th slot in the Canadian Football League's Scouting Bureau first Top 20 list of the 2021 season.

While Canada West voted to cancel first term competition team sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lokombo was simply electric on the field last season. The product of Abbotsford, B.C. racked up four interceptions, ran two back for touchdowns and also finished with 4.5 tackles-for-loss and 23.5 total tackles.
 
After setting a new Huskie record with 197 interception return yards last season, Lokombo became just the second Huskie in program history to win the U SPORTS Presidents' Trophy as the Top Defensive Player in the nation, joining current Huskies' defensive coordinator Warren Muzika in the team's record books.
 
Lokombo opted to remain in B.C. throughout the Fall where he is training with his brother Boseko, a standout defensive back with the Toronto Argonauts.
 
The high ranking for Lokombo is yet another accolade for a Huskie program that is producing professional talent at a high rate. Just last year the Huskies had five members selected in the CFL draft, led by Mattland Riley who was chosen by the Saskatchewan Roughriders with the seventh pick of the draft. That mark of five players was just the second time the Huskies have had that many chosen since 1978.
