Huskies ride third quarter advantage to tight victory over Heat

SASKATOON – In what a was a back-and-forth affair inside the PAC Friday night the University of Saskatchewan Huskies rallied for a 94-86 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat.

A contest that saw neither team lead by more than 12 points was decided in the third quarter. Saskatchewan outscored the Heat 26-17 in the frame, turning what was a one-point halftime deficit into a lead that stretched to 63-51 before the Heat fought back.

The Huskies were led by Alexander Dewar who went 10-17 from the floor en route to 29 points. JT Robinson added 20 while Maxwell Amoafo finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Gus Goerzen was lights out from beyond the arc from the Heat. The rookie forward was 8-10 from three-point land for a career-high 24 points. Hafith Moallin was all over the court for the visitors, finishing with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

The win moves Saskatchewan to a record of 11-6 where they are currently in a four-team battle for fifth place in the conference. UBCO meanwhile saw their playoff hopes take a hit as they fall to 3-16 on the year.

Saskatchewan dominated the battle down-low, outscoring the Heat 58-24 in the paint while also recording 24 points off turnovers compared to 10 for the visitors.

These two teams will be back in action tomorrow evening inside the PAC with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
