SASKATOON –  After a triple-overtime marathon game three victory kept their Canada West Championship dreams alive, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's hockey team will head to Edmonton to take on the conference's number one seeded Alberta Pandas in semifinal action.

The Huskies took down the Mount Royal Cougars in a best-of-three series in the conference's quarter-finals this past weekend to move them through to the final four. Saskatchewan started game one of the series with an offensive explosion, as they scored a season-high five goals in a shutout victory. However, Mount Royal bounced back with a 3-0 win to force game three. The Huskies dominated the final game of the series and were rewarded as their 60th shot on net found twine in triple overtime.

The Pandas enter the postseason on the backs of a seven-game winning streak and haven't lost since January 18th. Alberta has only got outshot once this season, which was back on Oct. 20 in a 3-1 loss against Mount Royal.

After the Huskies won the opening game of their regular season against the Pandas, Alberta has reeled off three consecutive victories over Saskatchewan, including a pair of 2-0 wins at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton. Kennedy Gasner led the way for Alberta throughout the season series, with the forward chipping in three goals and two assists over the course of the four games.

5 Things

1: Leah Bohlken was named a first-team conference all-star for the first time in her career after the fourth-year defenseman led the Canada West in goals among defencemen with nine during the regular season.

2: Bohlken scored each of the goals for the Huskies in their four meetings against the Pandas this season, including the historic first-ever goal in Merlis Belsher Place in their 1-0 victory in the season opener on Friday, Oct. 5.

3: Fourth-year Alberta forwards Autumn MacDougall and Alex Poznikoff were each named Canada West first-team all-stars. MacDougall, picks up her second-consecutive nod, while Poznikoff picked up her third consecutive first-team all-star appearance.

4: Alberta's Cayle Dillon and Kennedy Ganser were each named to the second all-star team, while first-year netminder Halle Oswald was named to the all-rookie team.

5: The Pandas have dominated the Huskies at Clare Drake Arena in the last five years, holding a 7-0-0-1 advantage in their last eight meetings in Edmonton.

By the Numbers

109:49.3 – Rachel Lundberg's game-winning goal came with just over ten seconds remaining in triple overtime.

9– Alex Poznikoff enters the postseason on a nine-game point streak, with eight goals and seven assists during that stretch dating back to Jan. 12.

24 – The Pandas allowed only 24 goals this season, which was lowest in the Canada West.

13-1 – Alberta had a 13-1 record at home during the regular season with their only loss at Clare Drake Arena coming on Jan. 11th to UBC.

Scouting the Pandas

Alberta will be fresh after a quarterfinal bye and will be looking for their first Canada West Championship since 2014-15. The Pandas, who won 11 of the first 12 conference titles, have only won once in the past eight seasons.

The Pandas received all four first-place votes in the national rankings and enter the weekend as the unanimous number one ranked team in U SPORTS. Saskatchewan will need to attempt to get on the scoreboard early, as Alberta was a perfect 17-0-0-0 when leading after two periods this season.

Alex Poznikoff, Autumn MacDougall and Kennedy Ganser finished first, second and third in the Canada West in points this season. Poznikoff led the way with 15 goals and 22 assists in 27 games, which were both conference highs.

Kirsten Chamberlin and Halle Oswald have each been sensational between the pipes for the Pandas this season. Chamberlin sported an 11-0-0-0 record with a 0.57 GAA and 0.963 save percentage, while Oswald held an 8-1-0-0 record with a 0.61 GAA and 0.962 save percentage.
