SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's volleyball team clinched their first postseason appearance since the 2015-16 season with their win on Saturday night in Kamloops. The Huskies will now welcome the Mount Royal Cougars to town this weekend in a matchup between a pair of playoff-bound programs.
Â
Saskatchewan will return to home for the first time since Jan. 19 following a four-game road swing, which saw the team pick up a pair of big victories against the Alberta Golden Bears and Thompson Rivers WolfPack to seal series splits away from the PAC. The Huskies are now in the midst of a jostle for playoff positioning, and a pair of wins this weekend would go a long way to improving their matchup come the postseason.
Â
Mount Royal, who enters the weekend as the fourth-ranked team in the nation, has won eight of their last ten games dating back to Friday, Nov. 30 against the UBC Thunderbirds. The Cougars recorded a series sweep over their cross-town rival Calgary Dinos this past weekend, which puts them in a tie for third in the Canada West with a 15-5 record and only two points behind three-time defending conference champion Trinity Western.
Â
Saskatchewan and Mount Royal met last season in Saskatoon, with the visitors coming away with a 3-1 win on Friday, Nov. 24, but the Huskies rebounded the following night with a marathon five-set victory to pick up the split.Â
