SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team will go to battle in the friendly confines of the PAC for the first time in the 2019-20 season this coming weekend when the host the MacEwan Griffins.

The No. 1 ranked Huskies are looking to continue their winning ways after they took care of the Brandon Bobcats by scores of 78-21 and 99-41 to open their season. This will be the first time the Huskies are in the PAC since winning their sixth Canada West title to cap off last season.

MacEwan opened their Canada West Campaign with a split at home against the Mount Royal Cougars. The Griffins won on opening night by a score of 65-53 before losing 62-58 the second night. MacEwan finished last season with a 6-14 record, missing out on the playoffs.

The Huskies last tangled with the Griffins on Jan. 5 and 6 during the 2017-18 season, in Edmonton. Saskatchewan was victorious in both contests as they opened the series with a 95-39 win and followed that up with a 88-39 victory.

1:Â After their game on Saturday, the Huskies will raise 2018-19 Canada West banner, celebrating their third conference title in the last six years.Â
2: Also postgame on Saturday, there were will be a tribute to Pat Lawson. A member of the University of Saskatchewan Athletic Wall of Fame, the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and the Basketball Canada Hall of Fame, Lawson represented the Huskies on 13 teams over four years including basketball, swimming, tennis, and track and field. Pat joined the Physical Education faculty at the University of Saskatchewan in 1956 where she was a teacher, coach, administrator and was appointed Women's Athletic Director, a position she held until 1967.Â

Katriana Philipenko recently became a member of an ambassador team of Huskie athletes supporting KidSport Saskatchewan.
4:Â Saskatchewan and MacEwan have only met twice in Canada West action.
