SASKATOON – a back-and-forth game ended with a hot run from the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team as they took down the host Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 31-29, 20-25, 15-7) inside the PAC on Friday night.
Thompson Rivers held a narrow .299-.285 hitting percentage advantage on the night while also firing in nine service aces to the Huskies' five.
Sam Taylor Parks had 18 kills to lead the WolfPack while Charlie Bringloe recorded 12 and Kyle Behiels racked up seven blocks on the night.
Dylan Mortensen, currently second in the conference in kills, had a game-high 22 follwed by both
Aidan Saladana and
Daulton Sinoski who finished with 10.
CJ Gavlas was the key to the offence all night, recording 43 assists.
After the teams traded the opening four sets, the WolfPack dominated the fifth. Thompson Rivers finished on .278 of their swings while also playing stern defence to limit the Huskies to -.133 of their attempts to claim the victory.
With the final set tied at six, the WolfPack went on to score nine of the next ten points, keyed by two kills apiece from Joshua Mullaney and Taylor Parks.
With the win the WolfPack improve to 2-7 on the season while the Huskies fall below .500 to 5-6.
Both of these teams will be back in action tomorrow night in a game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. inside the PAC. It will be the final Canada West action for both teams before the winter break.
