SASKATOON – A pair of rivals locked in a tight battle for playoff positioning sets the stage for what should be an exciting weekend of action when the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's volleyball team hosts the Regina Cougars on Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court inside the PAC.
Â
Both games will get underway at 6 p.m. and take place on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12.
Â
Saskatchewan and Regina are currently tied for seventh in the conference with identical records of 6-8 so far this season. With two other teams joining them in a tie for seventh and only eight squads making the playoffs, this weekend will be crucial as both the Huskies and Cougars try to solidify their spot in the post-season.
A strong showing out in the road in Winnipeg saw the Huskies sweep the Wesmen, and move their winning streak to four games in the process, last weekend. Regina also had a good start to 2019, earning a split at home with the 10-4 Alberta Pandas.
Five Things
Â
1: There will be a chance for a meet and greet between youth club teams and the Huskies after the game on Saturday.
2: Eight teams make the Canada West playoffs and these squads are right in the mix, currently in a four-way tie for seventh.
3: Saskatchewan is trying to qualify for the post-season for the first time since 2004-05.
4: The Huskies will be hoping to use home court advantage a little more effectively in the second half of the season. Currently they are 2-4 at home and 4-4 on the road with six home games left.
5: These two teams met twice in the pre-season with Regina claiming wins by scores of 3-0 and 3-1.
