Kelowna, B.C. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskie men's soccer team picked up an important point on the road, tying the UBC Okanagan Heat by a score of 1-1 on the Nonis Turf Sunday afternoon in Kelowna.
Fifth-year midfielder
Jakub Rogowski scored the lone goal for the Huskies, while Shaun Pilcher answered for the Heat.
Saskatchewan fired eight shots towards the Heat net in the contest and goalkeeper
Greg Buckley had a solid outing, recording three saves.
The Huskies got on the board first when Rogowski netted his first goal of the year, connecting with a big right-footed shot to the top right corner in the 14
th minute.
The match was evened when the home team's lone fifth year player, Pilcher, scored his second goal in as many matches. Pilcher connected in the 30th minute to put the match at one goal apiece.
Both keepers were tested a few times in the last hour of the match but neither UBCO's Nicholas Reitsma or Saskatchewan's Buckley would give up the game winner.
With the tie, the Heat set their record at (2-4-4) standing at the sixth in the Pacific division. The Huskies, in the Prairie Division, hold on to fifth spot with (2-5-1) record.
The road trip will continue for the Huskies next weekend when they head to Edmonton to face MacEwan University on Saturday (Sept. 29) with a 12 p.m. start time. As well as the Alberta Golden Bears on Sunday (Sept. 30) at 2:15 p.m.
