Saskatoon – Make it three victories in three races for
Courtney Hufsmith as she led the way for the University of Saskatchewan Huskie women's and men's cross country teams at the Stewart Cup in Calgary, AB.
The Huskies got yet another chance to test their mettle against some of the best at the Stewart Cup, which featured both top university runners while also doubling as the Alberta Provincial Championships.
Racing around Canmore Park, the Huskies had another strong day in what will be their final competition before the U SPORTS National Championships that will take place Nov. 10 in Kingston, ON.
Hufsmith crossed the line first in a time of 29:04. The victory moves the third-year runner to a perfect three for three on the season after she also claimed victories at the Cougar Trot in Regina and the Sled Dog Open in Saskatoon.
Courtney Moffatt was next up for the Huskies, as the third-year Education major finished 16th in a time of 32:37.
Also in the top thirty were
Hillary Mehlhorn in 27th and
Natalia Bidulka in 30th.
Rounding out the women's squad were
Dezeray Wapass (34:42),
Sydney Neufeld (34:51) and
Sonia Rees (35:46).
On the men's side of the draw,
Jared Welsh was the top Huskie yet again as the fourth-year athlete finished the 10 km race in 22nd overall.
Jon Fernandes (36:00),
Taryn Heidecker (36:04) and
Kaden Nilson (40:07) finished in 38th, 39th and 64th respectively.
