SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's soccer team will enter the postseason with a 6-6-2 record, which locked them in as the second seed in the Prairie division, slotting them against the Fraser Valley Cascades in the Canada West quarter-final. The Cascades finished the regular season with a 7-6-1 record and in fourth place in the Pacific division.
Â
The Huskies had a stellar final home stretch, as the club picked up pivotal victories against Prairie division foes. They defeated the Mount Royal Cougars 4-1 and followed that up with a 2-0 victory over the Calgary Dinos. The wins clinched second place in the Canada West and ensured the team a playoff game on home turf.
Â
Meanwhile, the Cascades are fresh off hosting UNBC, where they closed their regular season with a win and a draw in their final series.
Â
The Huskies and Cascades met on Sept. 21 in Abbotsford, when Fraser Valley defeated Saskatchewan by a score of 1-0. The two clubs were even in shots on goal with four apiece in the match. The breakthrough of the match happened in the 89th minute, as Gurmaan Jhaj rifled a goal in from the penalty spot to seal three points for the home side.

Scouting the CascadesÂ
Â
How far can Gurmaan Jhaj lead his club?
Â
After a 4-9-3 record in 2018, the Cascades have bounced back in a big way this season, with Jhaj being a big reason for that. The fourth-year scored 13 goals this year, which placed him second in the Canada West. He was also one of only three Cascades to start all fifteen games this season.
Â
Goalkeeper David Hicks started 11 games this season for Fraser Valley. His impressive 1.18 goals-against average placed him third in the Canada West in that category.
