THE GAME
Both the University of Manitoba Bisons and University of Saskatchewan Huskies will look to get an early jump in the standings, putting their 1-0 records on the line in the second game of the Canada West football schedule.

THE HEADLINES
• Saskatchewan (No. 8) is one of three Canada West teams to hold a spot in the CIS Top 10.Manitoba holds the No. 10 spot after a Week 1 defeat of the UBC Thunderbirds.
• Rookie cornerback Travoy Martinez enters the game as the reigning Canada West & CIS defensive player of the week after snaring two interceptions and five tackles in a Week 1 32-0 win over Alberta.
• In the lone meeting between the two teams in 2011, Manitoba prevailed 26-16 in Winnipeg.
 
CIS RECORD WATCH
Huskie safety Bryce McCall sits two interceptions away from tying the CIS career record of 21. It would also break the Canada West and Huskies record in thecategory. The record of 21 is shared by Bob Coffin (Saskatchewan, 1970-74),Peter McNabb (Toronto & Queen's) and Matt Carapella (Western).
 
BISONS/HUSKIES SERIES
Since1999, the Huskies are 11-7 against Manitoba. The teams have split their last two meetings with the Bisons winning 26-16 in 2011 and the Huskies winning 64-3 in 2010.

With a commanding 32-0 victory in Week 1 over the Alberta Golden Bears, the Huskies showed as expected that defence would be the strength of the team.
 
Rookie Travoy Martinez made a big impact in his first CIS and Canadian football game recording two interceptions, including one in the end zone on Alberta’s lone scoring chance in the game, and five tackles. The veteran defensive line also showed their power with seven sacks in the game with four at the hands of Ben Rush. 
 
The young Huskie offence proved to be dangerous. Rookie quarterback Drew Burko completed 13-of-24 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown. He also added 21 rushing yards and scored a touchdown on his own. Burko connected with Kit Hillis six times for 85 yards and veteran receiver Braeden George twice for 59 yards and onetouchdown.
 
Returners Luke Thiel and Martinez set the tone on special teams combining for 154 yards on returns.

Manitoba forced a 31-24 upset victory over the UBC Thunderbirds in Week 1 on the strength of a 96-yard punt return from Nic Demski.
 
Demski, who was named Canada West & CIS Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts, gave the Bisons’ the lead on the return at 4:08 in the second quarter and Manitoba never looked back.
 
Bison quarterback Cam Clark completed 13-of-24 pass attempts for 194 yards in the game but the majority of Manitoba’s offence came on the ground. Kienan LaFrance recorded 165 yards on 19 carries scoring two touchdowns. Demski also put the ball in the end zone on a rush play.
 
Defensively, Ranji Atwall led the Bisons with 7.5 tackles and two sacks. Teague Sherman was also strong tallying six tackles, one interception and one sack.å
