University of Saskatchewan athlete Kieran Johnston defended his title at the U SPORTS National Championships in Winnipeg, MB this past weekend.

The third year from Saskatoon claimed the men’s teams only gold medal of the meet, finishing the heptathlon with 5,104 points, marking the second year in a row that he is the Canadian university champion in that event.

After picking up an injury in the 60-m hurdles, Johnston rallied to get through the 1000-metre to secure the gold medal.
