EDMONTON, Alta. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie track & field teams were back in Alberta this past weekend (Feb. 6-7), taking part in the Pandas Open which served as the final meet ahead of the 2026 Canada West Championships. With student-athletes looking to make their final push ahead of the conference championships, several performances highlighted the weekend including a pair of program records falling and three U SPORTS Auto Qualification standards met.
Nicole Ostertag was the first student-athlete to take the spotlight in Edmonton, setting a new program record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.12 seconds. A local Saskatoon product, Ostertag's time was three hundredths of a second faster than former Huskie and Olympian Michelle Harrison's time set in 2020. She now ranks second in the nation, trailing only Calgary's Sienna Macdonald.
Competing in the pentathlon 60m hurdles,
Timi Adelugba came home second with a time of 8.34 seconds to secure the first U SPORTS Auto standard of the weekend. Adelugba now ranks third in the event nationally, marking two Huskies in the top three.
Grace Igbiki added a second Auto Standard Friday night, coming home in first-place in the 300m with a time of 38.49 to secure her spot at nationals.
Similarly to Friday night, Saturday afternoon opened with a program record when
Kailee Woitas took the track for the 60m dash. After finishing fourth in the prelim races, Woitas ran a blistering 7.39 to take the top spot on the podium. Her time broke the Huskie record by four hundredths of a second, besting former USask student-athlete Gracie Anderson's time set in 2022. A fourth-year business student, Woitas also secured U SPORTS Auto Standard and now ranks third in the nation in the 60m.
Collectively, the Huskies reached the podium 16 times which included six first-place finishes. As a result, the USask women finished at the top of the team standings with 132.5 points, 32.5 more than the second-placed Calgary Dinos, while the Huskie men finished third with 72 points.
The Huskies will now begin their final preparations for the 2026 Canada West Championships, set to take place in two weeks time (Feb. 20-21) at the Saskatoon Field House.
