SASKATOON, Sask. – The University of Manitoba Bisons delivered a convincing road performance Friday night (Jan. 9) at Merlis Belsher Place, besting the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 4-0 to open the new year.

With the win, the Bisons improved to 5-8-4 on the season and pulled to within four points of the Huskies for third place in the Canada West East Division standings. The Huskies, meanwhile, saw their record move to 8-7-2 with the loss.

Manitoba struck first in Friday's contest, finding the back of the net midway through the opening frame. Norah Collins recorded her fourth of the season at 7:58, finishing off a pass from Alyssa Rasmuson to give the visitors a 1-0 lead after one. Saskatchewan would push back late in the frame, earning a power play, but the Bison's penalty kill held firm.

At the midway point of the second, Manitoba extended their lead as they continued to apply the pressure at even strength. It was Julia Bird who added the insurance goal, which was assisted by Rasmuson and Collins. 

Despite multiple power play opportunities in the second, Saskatchewan was unable to solve Jenna Goertzen between the pipes, with the netminder ultimately earning her first shutout of the season.

Leading 2-0 in the third, the Bisons put the game out of reach late. After successfully killing off another two penalties, Shayna Bannister found the back of the net, finishing a set up from Brenna Nicol. With the Huskie net empty in the final minutes, Kelsey Huibers sealed the win and secured a final score of 4-0.

With 15 saves Goertzen earned the shutout in her first appearance of the 2025-26 season, while Saskatchewan's Colby Wilson made 30 saves in the loss.

The Huskies and Bisons return to ice at the Merlis Belsher Place tomorrow night to close out their weekend series. Puck drop is set for 5PM.
