SASKATOON, Sask. - After a weekend swep of the Manitoba Bisons, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies returned home to Merlis Belsher Place looking to pick up their first win of the season on home ice. The visiting Calgary Dinos had other ideas however, as the Canada West East Division-leading team stormed out of the gates before cruising to a 7-2 win.
Calgary's Brooklyn Anderson scored twice in the contest, including the game's first goal just 6:29 in the opening frame, Josie McLeod recorded three assists to lead the Dinos on the scoresheet.
After jumping out to a three-goal lead with a trio of strikes just eight minutes apart in the first period, the Dinos did not let their foot off the gas as Jada Johns, Sophia Zuck, and Anderson each found the back of the net in the second to build a 6-0 lead heading into the third.
The Calgary shutout was finally broken by Kahlen Wisner, who scored her first of the season on the powerplay after beating Dino goaltender Amelia Awad from a tough angle below of the faceoff circle.
After Eden Carius recorded the visiting team's seventh tally of the evening,
Bronwyn Boucher dug at a loose puck in the Dino crease to earn her third of te campaign.
Despite the final score, shots were just 25-23 in favour of the Dinos, with Awad, who leads the conference with a .973 save percentage, making 23 stops.
The Huskies and Dinos return to the ice at MBP tomorrow, with puck drop set for 2:00 PM.
