SASKATOON, Sask. - A hattrick from Calgary's Brooklyn Anderson would lead the Calgary Dinos over the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday night at Merlis Belsher Place. With the win the Dinos take both games against the Huskies in the weekend series and improve to 2-1-0-1. Meanwhile, the Huskies move to 0-3-0-1 through four games.
After another tightly-contested start between Calgary and Saskatchewan, it was once again the Dinos who struck first. Calgary's Brooklyn Anderson walked into the slot and beat
Colby Wilson glove-side at the 14:54 mark to give the visiting Dinos the early lead. Kyla Mitenko would also pick a point on the play.
The Dino lead was short lived as with 1:25 left in the opening frame Saskatoon product
Paris Oleksyn found
Kaylee Hill streaming down the middle of the ice. Hill made one move before going to the backhand and sliding the puck just under the glove of Dinos goalie Amelia Awad. Oleksyn and Hill each earned their first point of the season on the play while
Bronwyn Boucher picked up the secondary assist for her second point of the campaign.
Despite a strong second period from the Dogs, the Dinos would retake the lead late in the frame when Brooklyn Anderson netted her second of the game on a 2-on-1 opportunity.
Out on the ice for the third period, the Huskies saw their best offensive pressure of the night, recording 13 shots. As Saskatchewan continued to push the pace, they were rewarded with a power play opportunity with under two minutes to play. Looking for the equalizer, the Huskies would pull the goalie to bring their advantage to 6-on-4.
After thwarting some strong chances from the Dogs, Calgary's Anderson would gain control of the puck and earn the hattrick after a shot from her own blueline found the empty Saskatchewan net. Her empty net score with 28 seconds left would secure the Dino win.
