SASKATOON, SK - Hockey Gives Blood has released its nominees for the inaugural Cameron Bulger Memorial Award and Huskie Athletics is proud to congratulate women's hockey student-athlete
Sophie Lalor for being named one of this year's nominees.
The Cameron Bulger Memorial Award recognizes one Player Ambassador each year from the U SPORTS hockey community. The player will be deemed to have made a significantly positive impact regarding the awareness and necessity of Canada's Lifeline. The player exhibits traits that Cameron was known for, such as humility, dedication, and selflessness.
Hockey Gives Blood is a cause that is close to Sophie's heart. "I am passionate about raising awareness for the need of blood donors and stem cell contributions because I firmly believe in the power of giving back and making a positive impact on the lives of others," commented Lalor.
In her first year as a Player Ambassador for Hockey Gives Blood, Sophie has exceeded all expectations with her ambition and commitment to saving lives. She hosted the largest blood drive last season by a single player ambassador, also spearheading a stem cell event with unwavering dedication and adaptability.
"I have witnessed firsthand the transformative effect that these donations can have on individuals, said Lalor. "Their lives depend on the generosity and selflessness of donors, and I am committed to spreading awareness about the urgent need for these live-saving resources."
Sophie's ultimate goal is to educate the hockey community and raise awareness for Canadian Blood Services and Hockey Gives Blood. "By educating others about the simplicity and significance of becoming a donor, I am to inspire and create a community of compassionate individuals willing to make a difference. I am determined to create a lasting impact by encouraging others to join the noble cause of saving lives."
Hockey Gives Blood is a non-profit society that has partnered with Canadian Blood Services in an effort to engage and educate the hockey community about the importance of blood, plasma, stem cell and organ and tissue donation. It was founded in 2018 by former hockey players, all of whom were seeking to do more for the hockey community. When the Humboldt Broncos tragedy struck, they were filled with a desire to give back. Hockey Gives Blood is a work of passion for each of them.
The inaugural Cameron Bulger Memorial Award winner for the 2022/23 season will be announced this June. For more information, visit
