WHKY: Cougars Win 2-1 over Huskies

SASKATOON, SK – In a rare Sunday afternoon game, the Saskatchewan Huskies took on the Regina Cougars in U-Prairie Challenge action. After a 4-1 victory on Saturday night, the Huskies were looking to sweep the weekend series but were shut down by a 2-1 win by the Cougars. 
 
Starting lineup for the Saskatchewan Huskies would see Camryn Drever in goal, with Kendra Zuchotzki, Isabella Pozzi, Jessica Patterson, Sara Kendall, and Kate Ball on the ice. Natalie Willamson would get the start in net for the Cougars, with Jenna Mark, Rachel O'Toole, Hannah Pennell, Paige Hubbard, and Ireland Sorestad as the starting five. 
 
Opening up scoring in the first period, Saskatchewan's McKenna Bolger would net her first goal of the season at 6:27, with Sara Kendall and Kate Ball on the assist. The Huskies would have the 1-0 lead after the first twenty minutes. 
 
The lone goal of the second period would be Regina's as Lauren Focht would grab the powerplay goal at 8:56 into the period. It would be a tie game heading into the third. 
 
The third period opened with a quick goal from Regina's Jaydn Kushniruk at 1:26, with Makena Kushniruk on the assist, giving the Cougars the 2-1 lead. 
 
The Huskies would outshoot the Cougars 36-20. Williamson would pick up her first career win in goal for the Cougars. 

STANDINGS
The Huskies remain in fifth place in the Canada West standings with a 13-10 record. The top six teams in Canada West head to the playoffs.

The team heads to Calgary to take on the third ranked Mount Royal Cougars on February 10 & 11. Puck drop on Friday night is at 8:00 PM with Saturday's game starting at 7:00 PM. Game can be streamed live on CanadaWest.TV.
