SASKATOON, SK – Back at Merlis Belsher Place on Saturday evening for game two of their series against the Alberta Pandas, the Saskatchewan Huskies looked to build on Friday night's 2-0 win. The game ended in overtime and the Alberta Pandas headed home with the 2-1 win.
The Huskies would keep
Camryn Drever in net, after a shutout win on Friday night. The Pandas ran with second year Misty Rey in goal.
It was a quiet first period on the ice as Alberta and Saskatchewan were unable to open the scoring.
McKenna Bolger,
Kara Kondrat, and
Kate Ball all had decent opportunities to put one past Misty Ray but were unsuccessful, with Ray making some great saves in net for the Pandas. The period would end 0-0 with 11 shots on goal for the Huskies, and 10 for the Pandas.
Saskatchewan's
Kelsey Hall would get the Huskies on the scoreboard first with a beautiful shot to the top right corner of the net at 8:19 in the period, thanks to the assist from
Shelby Williamson. Huskies had the 1-0 lead going into the second intermission.
The Huskies had control of the puck for much of the third period, but the Pandas did not let up, putting in the equalizer late in the period. Alberta's Allison Reich would slip one past Drever, with assists from Raegan Yewdall and Bree Kennedy with less than five minutes left in the third. The game would remain tied at 1-1 as the teams headed into overtime.
Izzy Lajoie would be the overtime hero for the Pandas, firing one into the net at 2:36 into overtime with Natalie Kieser nabbing the assist.
The Huskies fall to 7-3 on the season, with the Pandas improving to 8-2. Alberta sits in second place in Canada West with the win, followed closely by the Huskies in third.
