WHKY: UPC Victory for Huskies in Regina

REGINA, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies were in Regina on Friday night to take on provincial rival Regina Cougars in a U-Prairie Challenge game at The Co-operators Centre. It was a successful business trip to the Queen City as the Huskies shutout the Cougars 3-0.

Saskatchewan opened scoring on the power play in the latter stages of the first period. Kara Kondrat's shot from the right circle bounced off Paris Oleksyn and the ricochet went right to Mallory Dyer, who popped it into the open net.

Kondrat was given credit for Saskatchewan's second goal, which was scored 7:40 into the second period as Isabella Pozzi's point shot bounced off Kondrat's shoulder and past Cougar goaltender Arden Kliewer.

Kliewer made 21 saves before being pulled for an extra attacker with two minutes left. The Huskies closed out scoring with an empty-net goal thanks to Kelsey Hall with ten seconds left in the game.

Friday night was a quiet contest in terms of penalties. Saskatchewan finished 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Cougars had just one power play opportunity.

Shots on goal were almost dead even, with Saskatchewan holding a 24-23 advantage on the evening. Saskatchewan's Camryn Drever earned her second shutout of the season with Friday's win in Regina.
