WHKY: Bisons Nab the 3-2 Win Over the Huskies

WINNIPEG, MB – After some extended time at home, the Saskatchewan Huskies (8-4) were on the road to take on the Manitoba Bisons (6-8) in Canada West regular season action.

Head coach Steve Kook went with Camryn Drever in net for the Huskies tonight while Emily Shippam got the start for the Bisons. Drever has had an impressive season in net so far for the Dogs, with two shutouts and a save percentage of 94%.

Starting lineup for the Huskies saw Isabella Pozzi, Larissa Bohlken, Taylor Wilkinson, Kate Ball and Sophie Lalor hit the ice, with Camille Enns, Chloe Snaith, Jessica Haner, Vanessa Klimpke and Brenna Nichol getting the start for the Bisons.

The first period would be a defensive battle as both teams looked to make magic happen out on the ice. Jessica Haner would open scoring for the Bisons at the end of the first period to leave the Huskies trailing 1-0 after twenty minutes of play.

The second period would be exciting for the Bisons as they were given a penalty shot opportunity after Brooklyn Stevely was called for hooking from behind. It would be Kate Gregorie facing off against Drever and she hits the back of the net to nab the penalty shot goal at 13:54 in the second to put the Bisons up 2-0. Saskatchewan's Sophie Lalor would slip one past Shippam late in the period to bring the score to 2-1 Bisons.

Manitoba's Molly Kunnas would find the back of the net at 6:36 into the third but Jasper Desmarais would answer shortly after at 7:06 with her first goal of the season to cut the Bisons lead to 3-2. The Huskies would fail to capitalize further and fell 3-2 to Manitoba.

The series continues tomorrow night at 7:00 PM at Wayne Fleming Arena. Live stream can be found on CanadaWest.TV.
