The University of Saskatchewan Huskies were back in action tonight at Merlis Belsher Place to take on the UBC Thunderbirds. Last night's battle ended in thrilling 3-2 overtime victory for the Huskies, with
Kendra Zuchotzki nabbing the overtime goal. Goaltender
Camryn Drever had the start in net for the Dogs after an impressive performance on Friday night against UBC.
Â
The Thunderbirds (3-1) offense put the pressure on the Huskies in the first period, keeping the puck in the Huskies (3-1) zone and goaltender
Camryn Drever busy. The pressure paid off as UBC found the net late in the first with a goal from Mackenzie Kordic at 17:02 and the 1-0 lead heading into the second period.Â
Â
The Huskies offense regrouped between periods and the intensity ramped up as both teams were on the hunt for the back of the net. It was a power play slapshot from
Sara Kendall that was too much for UBC goaltender Kate Stuart to put the Dogs on the board and tie the game at 1-1 early in the second period. There was a lot of frustration out on the ice, with penalties doubling as the offenses struggled to put points up on the board.Â
Â
Things shifted in the third period as the offense cooled off and the defense took over. Teams were firing on all cylinders and playing aggressive hockey, but neither team was able to capitalize, and the game was sent into overtime.  It was the second overtime period when UBC put the matter to rest. UBC's Chanreet Bassi, with help from Kennesha Miswaggon, picked up the goal and gave the Thunderbirds the 2-1 win over the Huskies.
Â
When asked about playing UBC, second year
Isabella Pozzi said "They're always a fun team to play against. Coming into the weekend we knew it was going to be a battle but I thought especially tonight that we held our own and we got a lot of good chances. It just went the other way at the end there, but I thought it was a good game overall on our part."
Â
There is no time to rest for the Huskies as they turn their focus to the Alberta Pandas and head to Edmonton next weekend. The Huskies will return to Merlis Belsher Place on November 4 & 5 to take on the Regina Cougars. All games can be streamed live on CanadaWest.TV.Â
