SASKATOON - Meg Dyer scored her first-career goal as a Huskie, but it wasn't enough for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies fell 4-1 to the Regina Cougars at Merlis Belsher Place.
The Cougars scored four unanswered, including an empty netter capping a three-goal third period for the visitors, who stormed back and picked up the win.
Regina took the lead midway through the third on a Lillia Carpenter-Boesch shorthanded breakaway goal, which was all the visitors needed on the night, as the Cougars leading point-getter tallied her fifth of the season.
Between the pipes, Arden Kliewer stopped 34 of the 35 shots fired her way, backstopping the visiting Cougars to the win.
In the opposite cage, Camryn Drever made 13 saves for the Huskies.
With the win, Regina improved to 5-6-2, while Saskatchewan fell to 6-5-2 with the loss. The Cougars are just two points back of their provincial rivals in the standings after the game, with just seven regular-season games remaining.
The Huskies opened the scoring, as it was Dyer's wrister off the draw that found at the midpoint of the second period, but that advantage was short-lived for Saskatchewan, as Lauren Focht provided the equalizer less than three minutes later, ultimately leading to the aforementioned three third period goals — including the insurance marker from Olivia Leggett with less than five minutes to go in the third period.
The two teams will do battle for the second time in as many nights on Saturday in Regina, as Saskatchewan looks to bounce back for a series-split against their provincial rivals.
