Kaitlyn Harrison rose to the occasion at the Plains of Abraham on Saturday afternoon, as she was the standout for a University of Saskatchewan Huskies cross country team competing at the 2021 U SPORTS National Championships in Quebec City, Que.
Harrison finished fifth, earning first-team All-Canadian status along the way. Harrison entered the meet in great form, with a fifth-place finish at the 2021 Canada West Championships.
The Lumsden, Sask. product improved on her 13th place finish at the 2019 U SPORTS National Championship, with her tremendous showing this afternoon.
Not far behind Harrison were McFadyen and Gracjczyk-Jelinsky, who crossed the line within seconds of each other, to record 26th and 27th place finishes.
Courtney Hufmsith, who was racing in her final cross-country meet in the green-and-white, placed 29th.
With Harrison, McFadyen, Grajczyk-Jelinsky and Hufsmith all finishing inside the top-30, Saskatchewan finished as just one of three schools in the country to have at least four female runners inside the top-30.
Thanks to the strong performances from the quartet of Harrison, McFadyen, Grajczyk-Jelinsky and Hufsmith, the Huskies finished fifth in the team standings and improved on their seventh-place finish in 2019.
Meanwhile on the men's side Anthony Antaya and Treyton Pernitsky finished 51st and 69th respectively.
