It took nearly 65 minutes, but the University of Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies with a 1-0 win in overtime.
Halle Edwards played hero as the second-year Bison scored her goal of the season with 30 seconds left in overtime to send the visitors home with the win.
Bisons netminder Erin Fargey made 34 saves in the shutout, keeping Manitoba in the game throughout the night.
At the other end of the ice Camryn Drever was solid when tested for Saskatchewan, but her lone blemish came on Edwards breakaway goal in overtime.
Manitoba entered the night in a tie with the UBC Thunderbirds for second-place in the Canada West and they stay there after recording two points. The Bisons hold a 4-1-0 record through five games this season.
The loss is the first of the season for Saskatchewan, who falls to 2-1-0. Saskatchewan sits in a tie with the Alberta Pandas for fourth in the conference.
The pair of programs will take the ice once again tomorrow night, as the Huskies look for the weekend sweep, with puck drop slated for 5:00 p.m. at Merlis Belsher Place.
