Women's hockey posts shutout over Bisons

Box Score

SASKATOON – University of Saskatchewan goaltender Chloe Marshall made 25 saves to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 shutout over the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons Friday night in Rutherford Rink.

Marshall, a second-year transfer from Northland College, made seven saves in the first period, nine stops in the second and another nine in the final frame.  Manitoba goaltender Lauren Taraschuk was also impressive on the night stopping 20 of the 21 shots she faced in the game.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 3-1-1 on the season. Manitoba drops to 2-3.

The game's lone goal came in the second period on an unassisted marker by third-year defenceman Leah Bohlken. Her shot from the point found its way through traffic and beat Taraschuk five-hold at 3:52 in the second.

Manitoba had a big opportunity late in the game to find the equalizer.  With 2:10 left in the game, the Huskies were called for too-many men. The Bisons hit the cross bar with 14 seconds left in the power play and just seconds later Marshall stopped Erica Rieder on a shot from the left side.

The Bisons were 0-for-4 with the man-advantage, while the Huskies were 0-for-1.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is at 5 p.m.
