Men's Hockey Wins Fifth Straight Against Fellow Top 10 Opponent

University of Saskatchewan goaltender Jordon Cooke stopped all 30 shots he faced to lead the No. 2 ranked Huskies to a 4-0 shutout victory over the No. 7 ranked University of Calgary Dinos Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink. 

Cooke, the reigning U SPORTS Goaltender of the Year and Spengler Cup champion, made 11 saves in the first, another nine in the second and 10 in the third. It is his fourth shutout in the 2016-17 men's hockey campaign. 

Calgary netminder Steven Stanford was equally impressive at the other end of the ice making 37 saves in the loss.   

With the win, the Huskies continue to hold onto first place in the Canada West standings at 14-3-2. It was Saskatchewan's fifth win in a row and fifth straight against a fellow Top 10 opponent. 

The Dinos drop to 12-6-1 with the loss. 

Saskatchewan jumped on the board on a scramble in front of the net. Jaimen Yakubowski was able to punch the puck by  Stanford 2:27 into the second frame

Connor Cox extended the Huskies lead at 7:31 in the final period on a shot from the point that hit the post and flipped by Stanford.

The Huskies added two empty net goals in the third period. Josh Roach scored the first on a face off win in the Saskatchewan defensive zone at 18:29. Logan McVeigh added the other at 19:59.

The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
