Seven different University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored in a 7-0 shutout victory over the visiting UBC Thunderbirds Saturday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

Parker Thomas, Jesse Forsberg, Kendall McFaull, Jordan Fransoo, Josh Roach, John Lawrence and Levi Cable each tallied a goal. Forsberg added a pair of assists in the game for a three-point night, while Kohl Bauml record three assists. 

The reigning Canada West men's hockey champion Huskies open the 2016-17 season 2-0, while UBC begins 0-2. 

Special teams proved to be the big difference in the game. Saskatchewan converted on 5-of-8 power play opportunities. The T-Birds were 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Huskies struck quickly scoring three goals in the first period.

Thomas tallied first goal with the man advantage on a scramble in front of the net at 4:55. Forsberg scored five minutes later with a quick shot from the top of the faceoff circle at 9:44. Captain McFaull record the final goal of the frame on the power play with a tip in front of the net at 19:32.

The Huskies found the net again on the power play to open the third period. Fransoo sniped the puck by UBC netminder Matt Hewitt's glove just 56 seconds into the frame. Roach added the Huskies fourth power play goal at 7:37 in the frame when his shot just skimmed underneath the cross bar.  Lawrence added the sixth goal at 10:28 and Cable scored the seventh at 15:32 on the power play.

Hewitt, who was replaced by Derek Dun, after the sixth Huskies goal made 23 saves. Dun stopped four shots in his nine minutes. Reigning CIS Goaltender of the Year Jordon Cooke made 28 stops for Saskatchewan.

The Huskies travel to Edmonton to meet the Alberta Golden Bears next weekend, while UBC remains on the road to face the Calgary Dinos.
