THE GAME
The No. 4 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies will put its undefeated record on the line against the University of Regina Cougars in a home-and-home series. The series opens in Regina on Friday before moving to Saskatoon on Saturday.
THE HEADLINES
• Saskatchewan (No. 4) is one of three Canada West teams in the CIS rankings. The Huskies are joined by Alberta (No. 1) and UBC (No. 10) in the Top 10.
• Rookie Andrew Johnson is tied for the Canada West scoring lead with five goals and two assists on the season.
• This weekend is the first of two home-and-home series' with the Cougars. The provincial rivals will close the season out February 12-13.
• On Saturday night, the Huskies will pay tribute to men's hockey alum Cody Smuk, who passed away after a year long battle with cancer, by retiring his number 24 jersey at Rutherford Rink prior to Saturday night's game.
THE SERIES
Since 2005-06 the Huskies are 35-12-2 against Regina. Saskatchewan is 20-4-2 at home during that stretch including winning both contests at Rutherford last season. The Cougars knocked off the Huskies once in four meetings in 2015-16.
UNIVERSITY OF REGINA COUGARS (1-3)
The Regina Cougars look to rebound after a pair of lopsided home losses to Alberta.
The Cougars were outscored 15-3 in their home rink to the No. 1 team in the country last weekend. After winning their opening night game against the Manitoba Bisons, the Cougars have dropped three straight.
Dylan McKinlay is the leading Cougar scorer with three points through four games. In goal, Dawson MacAuley has handled the majority of the workload posting an .880 save percentage.
NO. 4 UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES (4-0)
The Saskatchewan Huskies have been clutch when called upon to start the season.
All four of the Huskies' wins have come via one-goal victories. Twice they have scored a tying goal late in the third period and gone on to win in overtime.
A pair of rookies have provided the offensive spark for Saskatchewan. Andrew Johnson is tied for the goal scoring lead with five goals and two assists, while fellow first-year Kohl Bauml is close behind with six points on a goal and five assists.
Jordon Cooke has played all four games in net for Saskatchewan posting a .915 save percentage and a shutout.
