Box Score When the men's soccer weekend series between the MacEwan University Griffins and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies settled, the Huskies walked away with two victories, including a 5-1 Sunday win and the Griffins with more valuable lessons.
Playing a more disciplined game, the Griffins team came out with a renewed confidence in their game plan and it was evident from the start. The game was evenly matched on both sides of ball in the first half, with Mathew Gillott opening the scoring in the 14th minute, completing a pass from David Brown to take the 1-nil lead.
In the 28th minute, the Griffins generated their first quality offensive opportunity with Dejan Gajic (Sremski Mitrovica, SRB) notching the first home goal in Canada West for the host team.
The Huskies would reclaim the lead for good, when the Griffins rookie defender Matt Hansen (Edmonton, AB) committed a foul in the box, resulting in David Brown's fifth goal of the season on the ensuing penalty kick.
