Dean Wiebe (B.Ed., 1987), a graduate of Mount Royal Collegiate, played four seasons in the Saskatoon Senior Men's Basketball League after high school, then joined the Huskies basketball team for five years - 1989-90 to 1993-94.
In his senior year, he led the Canada West and was second in the country with an average of 27.1 points per game, including a single game high of 47 points.
He was twice named a CIAU All-Canadian in 1992-93 and 1993-94 - and was selected by coaches asplay of the year in Canada West both of those seasons.
In 1993, he was named a co-winner of the E. Kent Phillips Trophy as male athlete of the year at the U of S, sharing the award with hockey player Wayde Bucsis. Dean won the award again in 1994.
He later had a tryout with the Canadian national team and played one summer pro ball with the Saskatoon Slam in the National Basketball League.
