Carl Waterer, a graduate of Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.S.P.E., 1976; B.Ed., 1976) in 1968.
He established numerous WCIAA records, plus four records nationally in the CIAU.
As a freshman, Carl won the WCIAA 100-yard butterfly and set a CIAU record in the 500-yard freestyle. He won three events at the WCIAA championship in 1970-71, won two gold at nationals and was named CIAU swimmer of the year.
Carl was named a WCIAA all-star three times.
He won the Howard Nixon Trophy as the Huskies tournament athlete of the year in 1968-69 and 1970-71.
