Bruce Waldner, a graduate of Mount Royal Collegiate in Saskatoon, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.Sc., 1987; B.Ed., 1989) in 1982.

Bruce was a member of the Huskies wrestling team for five years. He was Canada West champion four times and twice a CIAU gold medalist.

In 1987, Bruce was selected as the outstanding wrestler in both the Canada West and CIAU.

While a student at the University of Saskatchewan, Bruce twice represented Canada at the world championships.

In both 1987 and 1988, he was awarded the Howard Nixon Trophy as the University's outstanding male athlete in a tournament sport.

Bruce was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
