Don Saxton, a graduate of Plenty High School, enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan (B.A., 1981) in 1975.
Don was a member of the Huskies volleyball team for three years and on the basketball team for two seasons.
In volleyball, he was selected a Canada West All-STar in 1979 and 1981 and was a CIAU All-Canadian in 1981. He was a starting middle blocker on the 1978-79 Huskies team that won the Canada West and CIAU Championships. At the CIAU Championship in Hamilton, he was selected a tournament all-star.
Don went on to play for Canada's national senior volleyball team for eight years, competing at the 1983 World Student Games in Edmonton and finishing fourth at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.
