SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed the weekend sweep of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack with 79-45 win Saturday night on Ron & Jane Centre Court at the PAC.
The victory keeps Saskatchewan's record perfect on the season at 4-0. Thompson Rivers leaves the weekend series with their first two losses to sit at 4-2.
With the score at 18-13 after the opening quarter, the Huskies kicked it into gear in the second. Third-year Sabine Dukate recorded nine of her game-high 21 points in the frame to stretch Saskatchewan's lead to 42-23 heading into halftime.
Second-year Summer Masikewich stepped up in the third. Masikewich recorded eight of her 18 points in the quarter to give the Huskies a more-than-comfortable 31-point lead heading into the final quarter, 66-35.
Late in the fourth, Masikewich capped off the impressive Huskies performance with a step-back three-point make late in the shot clock. It was Masikewich's first attempt of the season. This would be the final basket for the Huskies as they would go on to win 79-45.
Dukate lead all scorers with 21 points in the game, while adding four rebounds, two assists and two steal. Masikewich was close behind with 18 points and five rebounds. Fifth-year Megan Lindquist was also impressive for the Huskies, recording 12 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
For the WolfPack, three scorers finished tied with a team-high eight points. First-year Makayla Hoey had eight points, six rebounds and three steals. Fourth-year Emma Piggin recorded a steal and rebound with her own eight points while first-year Jordan Haggerty finished with eight points, an assist and a rebound.
The WolfPack shot 24.5% from the field, and the Huskies shot 45.6%.
Thompson Rivers will return home to host Lethbridge next weekend, while the Huskies will travel to Victoria next week to take on the Vikes.
