SASKATOON – The No. 1 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies kept their undefeated conference record intact with a convincing 88-59 win over the Brandon University Bobcats Saturday night at the PAC.
Saskatchewan improves their CIS best record to 16-0 with the win. The Huskies also extended their home winning streak to 32 games. Brandon's record drops to 6-10 after the weekend sweep.
Saskatchewan opened up a huge cushion in the opening 10 minutes of Saturday's contest. The Huskies defence held the Bobcats to just six points to take a 26-6 lead after one.
The Bobcats started to find the bottom of the basket in the second nearly keeping pace with Saskatchewan. The Huskies were still able to grow their lead and head to the locker room up 50-24.
Saskatchewan's defence was the story in the opening 20 minutes, forcing the Bobcats to commit 15 turnovers. The Huskies held the Bobcats to just 35 percent shooting while shooting 50 percent to build their lead.
Laura Dally had 15 points by halftime, opening the game five-for-six from behind the arc. The fifth-year guard accounted for all of Saskatchewan's first half three pointers.
The Bobcats kept it close in the third quarter, but the Huskies continued to pull away to lead 72-44 heading to the fourth.
Dalyce Emmerson led the Huskies on Saturday night with 23 points. Emmerson was an efficient 9-for-11 from the floor and hit on another five-of-six attempts from the free throw line. The fifth-year forward corralled four of her six rebounds on the offensive end. Dally added another 21 for the Huskies, while Kelsey Trulsrud brought down a team high seven rebounds.
Keisha Cox scored a game-high 24 points for Brandon. In 30 minutes of court time Cox hit on 7-of-10 shots from the field and connected on 10 of her 12 attempts from the charity stripe. Cox added a team high four assists. Kaela Cranston grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
The Huskies will play their final home games of the regular season when the host the University of Alberta Pandas. The Bobcats return to home court in Brandon next weekend against the UBC Thunderbirds.
