The No. 4 ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears completed a weekend sweep of the No. 7 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a straight set 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-17) Saturday night on Ron & Jane Graham Court at the PAC.

With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 12-2 on the season. The Huskies drop to 7-7. A night earlier, Alberta won 3-2 (25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 17-15).

Tied at 11 in the first set, the Golden Bears pulled away building a three-point lead. Saskatchewan was returned the ball on a service error, but Taylor Arnett returned it right back to the Bears on the next play. From there, Alberta kept control and Nickifor ended the set 25-15 with a kill the Huskies couldn't dig up.

Alberta pulled to an early large lead in the second set and Saskatchewan couldn't recover. The Golden Bears easily glided to the 25-9 win.

In the deciding set, the Golden Bears had a 10-5 lead before the Huskies chipped away to pull within one at 11-10. But a Brett Walsh serve run that included an ace pulled the Bears ahead 19-11. The closest the Huskies could come again was six points. Chris Morrow ended the set 25-17.

Andrew Nelson led the Huskies with six kills and Zak Rempel added five kills.

Nickifor led Alberta with 11 kills, while Kevin Proudfoot added another nine. Reed May led the team with seven digs.

The Huskies travel to Winnipeg to meet the Wesmen next weekend, while the Golden Bears return home to host the Trinity Western Spartans.
