SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan rallied from two sets down to take a 3-2 (21-25, 25-27, 25-17, 28-26, 15-11) victory over the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat Friday night at the PAC.
Saskatchewan improves to 1-2 with the win, while the Heat also fall to 1-2 with the loss.
The Huskies jumped out to a five-point lead in the pivotal third set before cruising to a 25-17 win. In the fourth, UBCO looked like they might end things with a 25-24 lead. Andrew Nelson's kill tied things up before a block and a Robert Graham ace sealed the set.
In the fifth and final set the Huskies jumped out to an 11-7 lead before finalizing the win.
Nelson had a match high 23 kills for the Huskies in the match. Jordan Nowakowski added another 16 kills and nine digs.
For UBCO Jim Bell pounded donw 20 kills with help offensively from Lars Bornemann and Alex Siatlowski with 16 and 14 kills respectively. Kristof Schlagintwelt came up with 12 digs for the Heat.
The two teams meet up again Saturday night at the PAC at 8 p.m.
