Edmonton, AB - The MacEwan University Griffins men's soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Saskatchewan Huskies today in the 2015/16 regular season finale at Jasper Place Bowl in Edmonton. The Griffins end the season at 2-9-1, out of position for Canada West Playoffs, while . In line with tradition, today's final MacEwan University home game gave the Griffins the opportunity to thank and recognize fourth-year graduating defender Yousef Naboulsi, Edmonton, AB for his lasting legacy with the program.
In 2014/15, the Griffins inaugural CIS season, Naboulsi was the first player to score a goal for MacEwan University in Canada West history. The Commerce student played 39 games in the maroon and white.
In the first half of today's match, Saskatchewan got on the board in the ninth-minute courtesy of fourth-year defender Mitchell Bauche, Saskatoon, SK. The Huskies doubled up the score in the 40th-minute when first-year midfielder Gabriel Buatois, Kansas City, USA beat Griffins' first-year keeper Dylon Powley, Edmonton, AB with Bauche on the assist. While MacEwan University found some offensive momentum towards the half, but were unable to capitalize. The Griffins trailed the Huskies 2-0 after 45 minutes.
The Huskies' third goal came at the 61st minute from fifth-year forward Bobbi Nicholat, Saskatoon, SK, with first-year midfielder Marcello Gonzalez, Regina, SK on the assist. The Griffins were unable to capitalize on opportunities created and the Huskies secured a 3-0 victory.
