Gay Named WHL Graduate Of The Month

EDMONTON – Rookie Saskatchewan Huskies forward Connor Gay is the sixth and final recipient of the Canada West WHL Graduate of the Month after posting nine points in the month of March.

A veteran of 237 Western Hockey League regular season games between the Regina Pats, Red Deer Rebels, and Saskatoon Blades, Gay showed his scoring touch in the final weeks of the season. Gay registered three goals and an assist in the Canada West Final against Alberta, before adding a goal and four assists at the University Cup in Fredericton, N.B. March 16-19.

Gay, who concluded a four-year WHL career in 2015-16 with a 72-point season for his hometown Saskatoon Blades, finished his rookie campaign with 14 points in a combined 14 Canada West regular season and playoff games.

The Arts & Science student was held off the scoresheet in just three Canada West games he played for the Huskies, who dropped the Canada West Final to Alberta in three games, before earning a runner-up finish at the University Cup.

The other nominee for the WHL Grad of the Month award was Alberta's Cole Linaker, who posted a goal and four assists for the Golden Bears in the Canada West Final.
