Showing its offensive prowess the No. 2 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies routed the visiting University of Regina Cougars 10-2 Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.
The Huskies tallied three goals in the first, another four in the second and three in the third on route to the victory. The first two goals in the game were scored in the first five minutes.
In the game, Logan McVeigh and Connor Gay each scored two goals and one assist. Cameron Blair tallied three assists and Jaimen Yakubowski had one goal and two assists. Jordan Franson, Jordan Tkatch and Andrew Johnson scored the other goals for Saskatchewan.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 17-4-2. The Cougars drop to 3-18-2.
Tristan Frei scored the first Cougars goal at 13:01 in the second period and Dillan McCombie added the second at 5:02 in the third.
Dawson MacAuley made 12 saves in the first period and another eight in the third for the Cougars, while Andy Desauteis made 12 in his second period of play. Jordon Cooke stopped 26 shots in the 60 miniutes.
The teams combined for 140 penalty minutes including six 10-minute misconducts and two game misconducts.
The two provincial rivals will close out the home-and-home series in Regina Saturday night at the Co-operators Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
