SASKATOON – D.J. Jordan's last second heave rolled off the rim at the buzzer allowing the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to prevail 77-76 over the Brandon University Bobcats Friday night at the PAC.
After leading for the majority of the night, the Huskies let the Bobcats get in front late in the fourth quarter. Brandon outscored the Huskies 25-20 in the quarter.
With the Huskies down two with under a minute to go, Evan Ostertag knocked down a clutch jump shot to square the game up at 72. On the next Bobcats possession, Chan De Ciman picked off a pass and took it the other way for a slam dunk that brought the Huskie faithful to their feet.
It looked like the Huskies may cruise to the win heading to the free throw line with under 20 seconds to go. Saskatchewan's struggles from the charity stripe didn't cost them the win as Jordan couldn't get the last second heave to fall.
The Huskies move to 5-10 with the win and keep their playoff hopes intact. Brandon drops to 1-15 with the loss.
Ostertag led the Huskies with 15 points in the win. Shawn Lathan scored 14 more to go along with four rebounds on the night. Shane Osayande led the Huskies on the glass with six boards in addition to his 13 points. Alex Unruh came off the bench and scored 13 more on five-of-eight shooting.
Jordan led all scorers on the night with 33 points on 13-of-23 shooting. Jordan knocked down four three-pointers and added four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Earl Thompson Jr. scored added another 20 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Bobcats.
Saskatchewan shot 46.8 percent from the field, while the Bobcats shot 44.3 percent on the night.
The two teams meet up again tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at the PAC.
