The University of Saskatchewan Huskie track & field teams are looking to make a splash as hosts of the 2012 Canada West Championship. Surprising the conference, the No. 3 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies gear up to host a Canada West quarter-final playoff series on the weekend. Saskatoon is the site of the 2012 Canada West track & field championships as the University of Saskatchewan Huskies host the two-day event, Feb. 24-25. Men's teams will compete for the R.E. DuWors Trophy, while women will battle for the Eleanor Haslam Trophy.
Gold medalists will be considered First Team All-Stars, silver medalists are Second Team All-Stars, including alternates for relay events. Awards will include male and female Outstanding Performer, Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Student-Athlete Community Award / CIS nomination.
The Championship begins at 2 p.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Saskatoon Field House. Events are scheduled throughout the day.

The young Huskie squad, who lost five fifth-year players including four starters last season, finished second in the prairie division with a 15-5 record and secured a home playoff date in the quarter-finals - something the Huskies' themselves didn’t expect.
Saskatchewan hosts the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in a best-of-three quarter-final series Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary, at the PAC.
The winner of the weekend series earns a place in the Canada West Final Four and possibly a spot in one of the CIS regional tournaments to qualify for the Final Eight March 16-19 in Calgary. No matter what, the Huskies already an extra shot at a trip to their fifth-straight national championship as hosts of the CIS West Regional.
Thompson Rivers finished third in the Canada West pacific division at 9-9. The WolfPack enter the weekend the postseason on a four-game winning streak, while the Huskies have won 10 of their last 11 games.

After winning their first-ever national championship in 2009-10, the Huskies returned to the tournament in 2010-11 as Canada West silver medallists finishing fourth. The first step along the road is a Canada West quarter-final series against the Trinity Western University Spartans.
The Spartans hit the PAC Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if needed) in the quarter-final. The winner of this weekend’s best-of-three series advances to the Canada West Final Four March 2-3 with a chance to earn one of two Canada West berths to nationals in Halifax, March 9-11. If the Huskies win, Saskatchewan would make their last stand at the Final Four in the PAC.
Saskatchewan, who finished 16-4 in the regular season, sits on a 10 game winning streak and hasn’t lost in the PAC since November 7, 2010 in a game to the Fraser Valley Cascades. The 20-game home win streak includes 10 games this season and another 10 from 2011-12. The Huskies are 42-5 in the PAC since 2009-10.
Trinity Western took the final playoff spot in the pacific division with a 10-8 record.

In Canada West men's hockey playoffs, the first and second place teams receive a bye to the semifinal. The third and fourth place teams host a quarter-final series against the fifth and sixth place teams. The winners of the series’ will face off against the top two in the semis.

The two-day national meet returns to Lakehead University for the second straight year. The preliminary rounds are set for Friday, starting at 10 a.m., with the classification matches (11 a.m.), bronze-medal bouts (12:30 p.m.) and championship finals (2:30 p.m.) following on Saturday at the LU Fieldhouse.
All the action from Saturday will be webcast live by SSN Canada.

Underdogs chronicles the University of Saskatchewan Huskie men’s basketball team and their amazing journey to the CIS Championship in 2010. Five Stones Films, the same company that produced the award-winning document on football Season of Dreams in 2007, produced the film.
The documentary will be presented at three different premieres in Saskatoon at the Roxy Theatre on March 15th, 17th and 18th. Each night will have special events in conjunction with the movie for high school students, families and alumni. Screenings on the 15th and 18th are at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on March 17.
Ticket prices are $10 for individuals, $20 for a family pack (two adults, three children) or $40 for a team. Tickets can be purchased at the Roxy Theatre doors prior to screening.

The Brainfreeze consists of a 10-kilometre and half marathon. The Brainsport Brainfreeze Scholarship Award (s) in Huskie Cross Country has been established in part from the proceeds from the annual event.
Both races will start and end in front of Grace Westminster Church on 10th Street East and travels north across the Broadway Bridge then onto the Meewasin Valley Trails.
