TWO HUSKIES EYE CFL 2014-05-12

Two University of Saskatchewan Huskies professional football dreams could be one step closer to coming true.

Huskies’ kicker Denton Kolodzinski and wide receiver Kit Hillis are both eligible for selection in the 2014 CFL Draft on Tuesday. Running back Jeremy Andrew also participated in a Regional CFL Combine.

The draft is seven rounds with nine selections in each round. The last round features 11 selections – two extra by the expansion Ottawa REDBLACKS. The draft features eligible Canadian players from the CIS and NCAA.

Huskies in CFL Draft List

Kolodzinski led the Canada West with 18 field goals in the 2013 season and sat third in conference scoring with 82 points for the Huskies. The 6-1 kicker from Regina has made 27-of-37 field goals and has tallied 8,108 punt yards in his four seasons in the green and white.

Hillis, a 2012 CIS First Team All-Canadian, has tallied 1,400 yards on 108 receptions with nine touchdowns in his 18 games with the Huskies. In 2012, the 5-9 wide receiver set a program record with 57 receptions in a season.

If chosen, the two would join the 54 other former Huskies drafted by a CFL team, including defensive lineman Levi Steinhauer and receiver Charlie Power selected in 2013.

The CFL Draft is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. EST on TSN with the REDBLACKS selecting first.
